Long noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) in mammals play a key regulatory role in a variety of biological processes such as epigenetic modification, imprinted control and tumorigenesis. However, the functions of majority of ncRNAs are still unknown. Our/A recent study published by Nucleic Acids Research1 shows that functions of mouse long ncRNAs can be reliably predicted by a coding-noncoding gene co-expression network constructed using re-annotated Affymetrix Mouse Array data..Observing that the probes targeting ncRNAs exist not only in the mouse 430 array, but also in other platforms such as the Affymetrix Mouse Genome 430A 2.0 Array and the Human Genome U133 plus 2.0 Array, we have provided a web server called ncFANs (non-coding RNA Function Annotation Server) to re-annotate microarray data and predict ncRNAs functions of interest to the user/functions of Your Favorite ncRNA (YFN). The ncFANs services presently includes to two organisms and three microarray platforms. This is the first web service for the function annotation of long ncRNAs. We believe it will be an important tool for researchers to further analyze the roles of long ncRNAs in various biological processes.
